Master Spring's Story

Master Spring & Wire Form Co. Overview

Emil Burda founded Master Spring & Wire Form Co. in 1945. Working as a foreman and set-up man at a large spring manufacturing plant, he was unhappy with the unresponsiveness to customer requests. He saw an opportunity. With the help from his father who worked at a foundry, they made a coiling machine and the company was founded.

Emil liked to say, “We can make the possible wire forms quickly. The impossible ones might take a little longer.” He took great pride in Master Spring’s ability to solve tough spring & wire form problems that larger companies chose to “No Quote”.

As Master Spring’s reputation for attentive service on springs and challenging wire forms grew, they became a natural choice for the local growing pinball and gaming industry. The turn-around time from design to assembly line was a few weeks. Sometimes playfield design problems were discovered as the game was going down the assembly line. Master Spring & Wire Form Co. evaluated the problem at the customer’s site, returned to the factory to make the revised parts and delivered them the same day. This kind of problem solving and fast response became a way of doing business. When you mix decades of this type of service with today’s technology, you have the recipe for a growing successful company.

In order to compete globally on price, quality and lead times, Master Spring began in 2002 investing nearly $400,000 per year in plant equipment purchases. The latest equipment allows us to make virtually any spring or wire form out of round wire without the need for secondary operations. It also allows us to shorten our machine set-up times, increase production rate times, and monitor the runs. Besides capital improvements, we implement process improvements by using lean manufacturing principles. We are financially solid and growing and continue to invest to compete and serve our customers for the long term.
